Shining In Portland
Memory Records – Pre-owned as New
"The year is 1973 and a lot of things have changed since Elvis’ last visit to Portland. During the February 1973 Las Vegas visit, it was apparent Elvis was not well physically and psychologically. Nevertheless, he finished the season with an excellent closing night on February 23. Two months later he was back on tour starting with a solid show in Phoenix, Arizona. In the middle of the tour Elvis played in Portland again. It was the same venue, mostly the same band, but Elvis was a different singer resulting in a different show. This performance is tighter and more polished than the 1970 concert. Some songs were performed with great care and passion, especially the semi-biographic dramatic ballads "You Gave Me A Mountain", "What Now My Love" and "I'm Leavin'". Among the highlights of this show is „Steamroller Blues“ which Elvis introduces as "My latest record, ladies and gentlemen“…and had been the most recent single taken from the live "Aloha" album. This one-hour with The King culminates with a killer rockin’ version of Elvis’ 1958 hit A Big Hunk 'O Love."
